A two hours drive brings you to the Sierra Nevada ski resort, well connected with Marbella, and just 31 kms from the Granada city centre. The Sierra Nevada is Europe's unique ski station, a favourite from december through march. Some go up skiing in the morning and down beach-sunbathing in the afternoon: a luxury for the happy few.
In the ski village there are restaurants offering typical Granada, Spanish or international cuisines, disco pubs and discotheques. With all these facilities and many more, Sierra Nevada provides wonderful all-round enjoyment with plenty of après-ski entertainment. Night-skiing? The Sierra Nevada resort where you can ski longer than anywhere else in Europe also offers visitors the chance to ski at night. The main run, El Rio back down to the village is open on Saturday nights. The slope is 3km long and has a vertical drop of 545m. This resort was the first in Spain to offer night skiing and has been a huge success. Time: 19.00 21.30 (subject to conditions)
Conditions are ideal for skiing at Sierra Nevada, with slopes covering an area of 2.500 hectares and descending some 1.300 m., 19 ski lifts with an overall capacity for almost 30'000 persons per hour, 34 slopes and six off slope itineraries. The resort is also endowed with an artificial snow system which ensures over 15 kms of ski-able slopes throughout the mountain.
The end of the ski season, however, does not mean the last of Sierra Nevada's options for leisure and sports activities. During the summers months, visitors may enjoy both the very pleasant, mild, mountain climate while admiring the natural beauty of this unique ecosystem of the Iberian Peninsula.
Drive up to the Sierra Nevada offering superb conditions for parapente, mountaineering, climbing, walking, mountain biking or horse riding; for sure you will admire the fabulous scenery, flora and fauna of this privileged nature park.
